Emma Gets New Home With Another AGA Rescue!

Dear AGA,
My name is Emma, and I've learned what a good thing it is to have a tail that wags really, really hard. That's what saved me from being put down at the shelter just a week ago, and that's what I did when I met Dylan, a former AGA dog (do you remember him? He was sent to a shelter in Walker County by his owner because he was chasing the neighbor's cows. Now he lives in Decatur where there aren't any cows, but lots of squirrels, which are ALMOST as fun to chase) and his family. Dylan isn't really keen on other dogs, but I'm a pretty old lady and I wagged my tail really hard, and Dylan and his family fell for me. Next thing I know, I'm sitting on this big comfortable couch in my new home, with Dylan for company, three cats, two teenage boys who don't stop petting me, and a mom and dad, after all these years. I'm really grateful to all of you at AGA who got me healthy again after some very rough months on my own. Thank you so much!

Banjo Gets a Personal Trainer

Hi AGA,
I have been having problems with some unsightly extra weight. I didn't like to go for walks alone. Bad things happened to dogs that were taken out alone at the puppy mill where I was confined before I was adopted through AGA. So guess what? My Dad got me a personal trainer. I love playing with Joe and he goes for walks with me. I have never been happier, and Joe GP is really happy too. When you get yourself a great new friend, "you will never walk alone".
Best Wishes,
Banjo (AGA Mr. Bojangles).

Just a Note from Libby and Kingsley

Hi Everyone!

Kingsley and Libby here. We were both were part of the Adopt A Golden Atlanta program and we are sooo glad you let our mommy adopt us. Life has really turned around for us. For me (Kingsley), I don't have heartworms anymore and I get to go on adventures everyday.

Excuse me Kingsley, but those are actually called walks. My original name was Liberty Belle and I use to have the big lump on my leg. Thanks to Adopt a Golden, my leg is all better. Now that it works properly I've lost 10 pounds and the Vet says I look great (it might be that special diet she has me on though)! My brother and I get to go walking, play with the neighborhood dogs, go camping, swimming and take part in our favorite sport, sleeping.

Libby, don't forget to tell them that we also get to save our doggie allowances so that we can give back to Adopt a Golden. Mommy says its really important to help out and give back to the people who gave us so much. She also signed us up to take in fosters again. It's been really cool meeting new cousins and teaching them tricks like "Give me Five!"

Anyway, we just want to give you an update and let you know we really love our forever home.

Thank you so much!

Kingsley and Libby Ward

Ginger's Hair Grows Back!

Yes, that’s me, Ginger. You may remember me when I was naked, but my beautiful coat is almost all grown out and I look FAB! I’m so happy because when I go for walks with my mommy and daddy I get noticed for all the right reasons. Yes, that would be my natural beauty and happy disposition. Now my tail isn’t the only fluffy thing about me.
I can’t wait to go back to the beach with my great new look. I’m so happy ‘cause my new mommy will never shave me and I’ll always look pretty.
Oh, and just so you know that I'm not vain, AGA asked me to remind everyone NOT to shave your dogs. We have a coat for a reason - it keeps us warm, yes, but did you know it also keeps us cool? Not to mention that we become at risk for sunburn without it! Ouch! Sure, it's nice to be pretty, but it's important to be safe too!
Gotta go smell some more flowers! Hope you take the time to do the same this Labor Day weekend. Woof! Woof!

Tator Tot "Tate" Checks in from Illinois

Here I am with my favorite toy in my favorite chair - good life, huh? Yeah, I'm a great pyrenees and not a golden but thank goodness the AGA folks were okay with that when they found me walking down the street. I was just a baby, 8 months old, and all alone! Now my life is great and I cannot wait til I get to see snow for the first time.

You see, my AGA foster mom told her sister in Illinois about me and so she came to visit, introduced me to her pup Murphy and well, the rest is history. She's now my real mom and Murphy is my "big" brother! We are THE best friends. He teaches me everything and plays with me and he's been telling me about the snow. He says that they won't be able to find me in it since I'm so white - but he's going to keep an eye out so I don't get lost! I'm not scared!!!

Murphy and I play all day, except for when Mom gets us on the bed for "quiet time" with her. She just loves on us and it's really nice. Oh, and sometimes I take a little break and sit on top of the air-conditioning vent as you can see here. Wee! That cold air on my fur feels SO good. This place is posh. I'm so lucky!!! Thank you to everyone who donates to AGA and allows good pups like me to have a happy life. It really makes a difference.

I'll send snow pictures this winter! Woof!

Luke (formerly Dudley Pup) Graduates!

What's the big deal, people? Of course I graduated! Y'all are so funny being all proud and calling me "gifted!" Just because I spent the first few months of my life on the open road doesn't mean I'm not smart. I was smart enough to get found by AGA, wasn't I? Hee hee.

Seriously, I am so happy with my new family and I'm glad I could make them happy by graduating from intermediate obedience school at the Cumming PetSmart! (I didn't even have to take the beginners class.) Next Tuesday I start the advanced classes - expect to ace those too and get my Canine Good Citizenship certification.

After that mom says it's Therapy Dogs International....then hopefully into the classroom for the Reading program she's shooting to develop up here! After this the sky is the limit! It's a blast for me so I'm in! Last weekend we went to Highlands, North Carolina for a "freestyle" event (dancing with your human) and it was so fun! How lucky was I to find these people? Thanks, AGA!

They say I'm such a happy dog and seem to smile all the time!! Well, of course it's true!

August Orphan(s) of the Month

Meet Chandler and Georgia. This golden couple are both Orphans of the Month for August. They are estimated to be 6 and 7 years old (Chandler is Georgia's older brother) and have been together their whole golden lives. Watch here to see this sweet couple enjoying life with their foster family.

Tanner (Rocky) Tells a Happy Ever After Story

If you scroll down to Jan. 29 you'll see my first story (when I was called Rocky). I had a hurt leg and I was very, very sad. A little girl fell in love with my picture and started raising lemonade stand money for me. Soon we got to meet. And then I got to live at their house. FOREVER!
As you can see, life is SO good for me. And my leg is totally fine. Thank you Adopt A Golden Atlanta - you gave me the greatest life I could ever want!

Scout - 1,300th Dog Rescued by AGA

Well, I'm the 1,300th dog that Adopt A Golden has rescued in just a few years of this biz. Boy, am I lucky. My mom had to move and left me in the backyard tied to a tree. I kept running around looking for her but every time I went around the tree the rope got tighter on my neck - ouch! After three days with only some water, I started crying. I was just so sad. But a sweet neighbor came and got me and now I'm safe and waiting for a new family! Please adopt me! Find out more by clicking on "orphans" at adoptagoldenatlanta.com.

Bennett and Crosby

This kid is cute! I'm glad I have him to love and I can't wait til he gets old enough to throw me the ball!

Star 94's Petapalooza

Well, here we all are at Star 94's Petapalooza last weekend. What a neat opportunity for AGA!
We looked great with our fabulous new tent, raised good money in merchandise sales and donations, and had many, many visitors wanting more information. At times, there were people 2 and 3 rows deep at our tent. Lots of petting going on!

There were probably 50 booths there -- food, rescues, pet related vendors and others. Several thousand people and their dogs attended throughout the day. We had a phenomenal location, right in the center fairway and were easy to spot with our tent. We had adoptees visit and actually, it seemed like anyone with a golden stopped by also. We met lots of cousins!
A special thanks to Sharon Nicolson and all the volunteers who helped. We were, well, dog-tired by the end of the day.

We love our new baby!

Dear Friends at Adopt a Golden-

We just wanted to share our exciting news that our little brother, John Harrison Riley "Harrison", was born last Friday April 25th! He was a big boy at 9 pounds 4 ounces and 22" long, which is all the better so he will be ready to play with us soon! We couldn't resist sharing a picture of us taking our brother for a walk and then a much needed nap afterwards...we try to be as close to him as possible at all times, Beau even tried to sleep with him in his little bed! As expected, we are the perfect Golden big brother and sister, very gentle and protective of our new little one. Look forward to introducing him to everyone at an adoption day soon! Love, Beau and Sadie Riley

They say I just have to get a vet check-up and then I can start meeting people. Yippee!!!

Great Reunion Story!

I was a "stray" picked up by Cobb County Animal Control on March 4 near Pope High School. The County was pretty sure they knew who my grandmom was and called her, but she doesn' speak English so well and didn't understand. So, off I went to the shelter and then to an AGA foster home where they started calling me "Dempsey." Whatever.
Cobb County gave AGA my grandmother's name and telephone number and they tried to reach her but she did not return the call. A few weeks later AGA received an email from a young girl named Sally who said her dog, Toby (ME!!!!), had been missing from her mother's home since March 4. She described me to a tee. AGA realized that their orphan Dempsey was really Sally's Toby (ME!!!!). My mom is living in Seattle and that's why I've been staying with her mom.
AGA found out that my mom Sally had been looking everywhere for me - putting ads on Craigslist and had called all the shelters. The shelters told her that Goldens get turned over to AGA and that is how I was found. Lemme tell you, when AGA picked me up from my foster mom's house and drove me home, it was one of the happiest days of my life! My grandmom started to cry she was so happy.
AGA thinks that one of the best parts of this story is finding out that I'm 14 1/2 years old. They thought I was much younger (ahem, thank you). And they loved finding out that I had been on a strict diet of Tofu, soy sauce and brown rice my entire life! It was good to get back to my usual food, but I didn't really mind those Milkbone treats and rawhides too much.
That's my story. AGA is the best. Who knows what would have happened to me if they weren't there? THANK YOU.

Why did my dad leave me?

My name is Trout and I'm a 12 year old male golden retriever. My dad got me when I was 6 weeks old and we've had a wonderful life! My mom recently had a baby and said I had to go. I really don't know why - I'm a real sweetheart and would never hurt the baby. She said it was too much trouble having a baby and a dog. So my dad took me to a shelter. I overheard the worker there telling dad that I would probably not get adopted and would be, well, killed. He was crying but he said he didn't have a choice. AND HE LEFT! I will never get that.

But this story is on its way to a happy ending. The good shelter people knew who to call: Adopt A Golden Atlanta. They were there within one hour and I was in a foster home right away. I'm told that I certainly don't act 12 years old. I am playful and love affection. I am house broken (of course!) and know some basic commands like sit. My tail wags pretty much non-stop and when I get really excited it twirls like a helicopter blade. I love other dogs and children. I'm great on the leash. I see and hear just fine. All I really need is a new family to love. I hope I get that soon!!

The lady at AGA told me about an Indian legend that says: "When a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into Heaven. At the head of the bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based on what they know of each person, decide which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away."

Hmmmm. What will I do when I see my dad?

Pooh Bear Princess??

Hi, I'm Pooh Bear (I'm a guy) and my mom and my sister Kate made me dress up as a princess! What were they thinking? Kate turned 3 and all a the sudden I'm supposed to be a princess?? But, it was kind of fun, she had all her princess friends and they all treated me like--well, a princess!!! A princess for a day, who's complaining?

Bella Lives the Good Life ... Now!

This is Bella here (I used to be called Butterscotch). I had a pretty tough time before the people of Adopt A Golden found me. I was scared a lot of the time and liked to hang out in my crate where I felt safe. But a great thing happened to me! I found my Forever Family and they have loved me into being a strong, silly and loving girl. I LOVE life. I go on walks every day and my job is to be the family comedian. Every day I do silly (and sometimes mischievious) things to make my Forever Family laugh. I always get lots of love and treats from my very own two kids, Patrick and Elizabeth, and my Dad. I have so many friends in my neighborhood! I like to to outside to bark and say hi. My new family includes a dog named Max who is my best dog pal and (ssshhhh) I totally have my mom wrappped around my paw! Life is good!

Thank you Adopt A Golden for changing my life!

Hugs and licks,
Bella
