April Orphan of the Month- Sam "Sammy"

Meet Sam, known to his foster family as Sammy. He is almost 2 years old and has his AKC papers. His owner took him to a shelter and simply turned him in saying he couldn't afford to care for him. We soon found out why - Sam had heartworms and needed a sponsor to help pay for his treatment.

Sam is now cured of his heartworms (thanks to a generous donor) and is so looking forward to finding his forever home. His foster family reports that Sammy is a lover boy with lots of energy. He takes the stairs 4 at a time and loves to chase squirrels. Right now, Sammy would knock down young children and chase cats but a family with another dog and children over 10 would be great. Sammy is a smart dog and is learning his commands and has also recently learned to fetch balls and return them. He'll need a secure fence at least 5 feet tall and preferably a home where he won't be left alone for more than 4 hours (he's still a bit unsure of his new life inside a house). Sammy will provide lots of kisses to the lucky family who adopts him!

Check out video of Sam playing at his foster home!
