March Orphan of the Month - Coltrane

Meet Coltrane, our March Orphan of the Month. He is a male golden between three and four years old. He was picked up as a stray with heartworms.

Once he recovered from treatment he found his forever home. However, we soon discovered it wasn't the best home for this guy. When gates were left open, Coltrane was found wandering the neighborhood dodging cars and UPS trucks. He is now looking for a forever home with locks on the gates.

Coltrane loves meeting new people and greets visitors with a big, toothy grin and wiggles all over. He would be a great dog for an active family because he enjoys running, hiking and anything else outdoors. He doesn't mind napping next to you inside either!

Watch our video to see this beautiful golden at his foster home.

Abby (formerly Jasmine) Sends Pics

A lot has happened since AGA rescued me and found me a great home last June! Here's me in agility training. They call it "balance board" (above) and "the jump" (below).

I call it "FUN!"

A Letter from Fender

Hi Goldeners!

Last summer I was hit by a car and left to fend for myself. I also had heartworms. Someone found me and took me to AGA. They saved my life and my leg. One of the AGA volunteers met my new parents at adoption day. The family already had a golden—Marley. She's a little skittish. She needed a sibling, but it had to be just the right dog. That worked out because I needed just the right family and I love other dogs.

Our mom is a professional photographer. Marley and I work at the studio. Our job is to tell Mom when clients arrive for their appointments and to let the children pet us. We also clean up dropped crackers and pretzels. We were born for this job!

Here is a picture of Marley and me. I'm the one laying down.

Thanks for saving my life and finding my forever family, AGA!
Love,
Fender

February Orphans of the Month

Introducing our February Orphans of the Month. Holly and Noel come to us from a puppy mill. Holly is a two-year-old female golden and is somehow related to the 11-month-old female, Noel. They both have a right ear that is slightly shorter than the left and turns up at the end. It is an endearing physical trait. These girls are quickly getting comfortable to life outside of the puppy mill. They are walking on a leash, following around their foster's golden and are even beginning to enjoy playing with toys. Watch our video to see these beautiful goldens are their foster home.

Stewart's New Family!

Guess what? Another AGA dog already lives here! That's Mick on the left. And me on the right. And in the back is a weekend guest. It's pretty golden around these parts.
They say I was very close to being euthanized - I don't think that's a word I want to learn the meaning of. I'll just leave it at this: THANK YOU!!

Lollipop Doodle Checks In

For those of you who remember me as a shy, scared 4-month-old goldendoodle puppy, I wanted to let you know that I'm growing up and my life is great!! I'm getting close to my 2-year birthday and I love everyone and everything. I don't even remember those early days, although I heard it was pretty bad. Mom said I refused to come in the house when they first got me.

But, now I'm the official front door greeter. I make sure to smile and wag my tail so that whoever is out there isn't scared like I was back then.

My favorite thing to do is wake up my kids Alexandra and Benjamin each morning with a wet nose and sloppy kisses. What a great way to start the day (well, for me anyway)!

A couple of weeks ago I got to play in snow - wow! That was totally fun. I hope we get some more soon.

I hope all my AGA friends are having as much fun as me. Thanks for finding me this perfect home!

Tanner (Rocky) Checks In One Year Later

I am emailing to let you all know this is my 1 year anniversary since coming to my new home! I was adopted by Katherine Hawkins and her family and life here is sweet!!!!!!!I have my sister Lucy and my cat siblings, Jake and Marina to play with. Lucy, Jake and I hang out and snuggle all the time, especially Jake. (Marina is a loner, so I just say hi! with a sniff as she walks by.)After my surgery and recovery, I am now able to hop up on the furniture with ease to sleep with my humans. They were so happy to see my progress that they let me sleep wherever I want! Isn't that AWESOME!!!!Christmas was great, the best yet! Santa brought everyone presents and I got a new snowman, deer antlers and some snacks in my stocking! I'm very friendly now, and not as nervous around new people anymore. People are actually really great!
I don't hang outside ALL the time like I used to. Now I usually opt for staying inside when it rains, like Lucy! She has taught me tons about how to be a spoiled rotten doggy!Katherine has taught me some basic commands like sit and stay, so I get a little treat! My mom says I smell like chicken every time she kisses me!I love waking my family up by laying on their chest and licking their face until they wake up. Lucy helps, too. She stands on the side of the bed and breathes directly into my mom's or dad's face. (This "applying hot-breath while licking the face" is a very effective method-works every time!) I had my yearly check-up in December. The doctor said I am in great shape! Everyone at the doc's office kisses me like crazy and they all think I am the cutest dog ever! Wow! (I weigh 51 pounds now and run like the wind!)Thank you Adopt A Golden for finding me and helping me find a good home. Being loved so much by so many is the best!!!!Here's to wet noses and wagging tails! Tanner Hawkins

Huntley Is Adopted!

Check it out: I have a last name! I even have a beautiful new collar that says HUNTLEY BROWN on it. My new parents rock! They heard about me, drove here from North Carolina to meet me, and that was that. I hear that my new place is beautiful and there are two cats (which I love) to play with. But best of all, my parents who will spend every minute with me. I'll never be left outside again - and they said absolutely no electric collars - whew!

High Point, NC is about six hours away from Atlanta so when it was suggested that I jump into the very back of the car I had to mention that I would be much more comfy in the backseat. They said okay and here I am getting ready to go!
Thanks, AGA, for stepping up to help great pyrenees too. We really appreciate it. Hope all the others get a wonderful life like me! Woof! Woof!

New Orphans: Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid

Okay, we're not really outlaws, but we did chew our leashes in half and jump all over our rescuer's car. But we were just so happy to have been rescued that we wanted to give her some big sloppy kisses. Apparently this is not so appreciated by someone who is driving. Who knew?
Sundance Kid is in the top photo - he's a little smaller than me. And maybe calmer. I'm the one with my eyes closed - I always do that when I get my picture taken, don't you? We are about one year old and we sure would like to get new families. Please check out our stories and those of the other orphans who arrived this week on the website. And come meet us at Adoption Day on February 1st!!

Waggles and Scarlett are a great pair! Waggles is a five-year-old Golden Retriever, and Scarlett is a ten-year-old cockazu (a mix of a cocker spaniel and shitzu). Reagan and Rusty's Life on the Coast

Rusty and I just love coastal living. Yesterday it was 82 and Rusty swam for over an hour. He just swims all round just because he can. He has gotten very good at going all the way under looking for crabs or whatever on the bottom. He scavenges and brings Mom and Dad his treasures. I just want people to throw me stuff. Like a ball.
Rusty doesn't run and catch stuff as good as me. They say he's "efficient" but I say he's lazy. However, he will swim forever so I guess that's something.

After a day of playing in the water, we are always just, well, dog-tired. Thanks AGA for finding both of us this great home!

Mookie The Babysitter

I love babies! Which turns out to be a good thing, cuz my new family has two that look exactly alike.
Thanks, AGA, for finding me new parents, a great human brother and sister, and these two little girls to take care of. I think I will be very busy for a long, long time.
Love,
Mookie (formerly Milky)

Happy New Year from Berkley

Happy New Year!

My name was formerly, “Sweet Potato”. I thought that I came from one big litter with 4 litter mates but I did not know that I was going into an even bigger litter! This “litter” had nine children awaiting my arrival! Can you believe it?

There also was this wonderful golden retriever named Bromley who had been very depressed as he had lost his best buddy Bailey. Bailey lived for 13 years and I heard that she was the best. It was my job to bring back a little more joy into this house. (Did I tell you that they also have two ragdoll kitties?!) Needless to say there has not been a dull moment.

I do have to confess I did make one silly mistake. It was Christmas Eve and everyone was excited, including me. For a short time they all went to church and put me safely in my crate with Bromley next to me keeping me company. I could have sworn I heard those reindeer on the roof and I wanted to see them. Bromley kept telling me that I needed to just wait but I couldn’t, so I worked on my crate until I felt a big owie!! Yes, I broke my toe at the age of 10 weeks and had a little splint. It was not fun but I did get a lot of TLC!!!

If you look at my picture I am getting bigger and bigger. Little Walker told his mommy that he could no longer pick me up but that he could still give me kisses. I think one of the best things about being in this family is all the little kisses I get and the secrets they all tell me when they snuggle up to me at different times.

I almost forgot to tell you that my name is Berkley. Maybe , just maybe, that means we will all go to California and I can play in the ocean. Right now I am happier than happier to be safe, rescued and loved. Thank you Adopt a Golden for saving my Mommy, my siblings and ME.

Wet kisses and big hugs,
Berkley

Seren (Buttercup) Lives It Up in Nashville

Hey all you Southern pups! We get snow up here in Nashville, TN and it's so much fun. Here's a picture of me playing in it with my big (little) brother Ollie. I just wanted to let you all know that everything has turned out great for me since that day when my previous owners decided I wasn't right for them. I came to this new family and they named me Seren cuz they said it was serendipity that I arrived when least expected but much needed. Big word, huh? Big love too!

Next month I will be 2 years old! I love all the many dogparks here in Nashville. I am very serious in protecting my family and Mom says I'm quite the watchdog. Hope y'all get some snow too - you'll love it! Happy New Year!

A Christmas Surprise in Colonial Williamsburg

What an unbelievable life I have had already!! First my puppy siblings and I are saved from the shelter by AGA and then I get named Lou Who. Next a nice man drives a long way to meet me and then we drive back to his city, Williamsburg, VA, and I get a new name, Sotheby. Dad keeps telling me about my new brother and sisters but I have to wait to meet them in a special surprise.

Mom and Dad set up a history-based hunt with the kids and I was the gift at the end! It was awesome!! Savannah (8) almost cried when she realized that I was hers forever, and Piper (6) thought Savannah had wished me to them. My brother Cole (11) simply couldn't believe it. It was a great day and I'm the luckiest girl in the world!

Here's how the hunt worked. My parents are SO smart!!

There were 18 clues in all which took them from the Capitol in the East end of Colonial Williamsburg, to the Palace in the West end where they "found" the "present" that Santa brought for them. Some of the cards were green and some were red. The red ones each had a letter on the back of the clue. At the end of the hunt they had to put the letters together.
  • #1 What is the name of the Queen inscribed on the Capitol? (Queen Anne)
  • #2 What flag flies above the Capitol? (British Flag)
  • #3 When was Sheild's Tavern established? (1745) Red clue: S
  • #4 Where did the Burgesses meet to call for the Continental Congress? (Capitol)
  • #5 What is hanging outside of James Craig's store? (a gold ball) Red clue: o
  • #6 Where can you find a barber pole? (the wig maker)
  • #7 What is the sign of the cabinet maker? (a chair) Red clue: t
  • #8 What does a cooper make? (barrels and casks)
  • #9 What fuel does a blacksmith use to bend metal? (coal) Red clue: h
  • #10 How many sides does the magazine have? (eight)
  • #11 What is the name of the shape of the Magazine? (octagon) Red clue: e
  • #12 How many shoes on the shoemaker's sign? (four)
  • #13 How many pears on the trees in the sign next to the saddle shop? (42) Red clue: b
  • #14 Where did the colonial people go to worship God? (Bruton Parish)
  • #15 Who is the famous boy buried in the cemetary? (Matthew Whaley) Red clue: y
  • #16 Go to the school named for this famous boy. Find your next clue by the bench in the front.
  • #17 The school named for Matthew Whaley was built on the grounds of our 1st Royal Governor's home before it burned. What is the name of this royal place? (the Palace)
  • #18 Go to the home of our 1st Royal Governor and seek the princess with the red bow waiting for you at the Palace. Put the letters from the backs of the clues together in the order you found them, before you go so you will know whose name to call out for at the gate.Princess ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ (Sotheby)SHE will be your next clue!

There is a path that the locals take to go between Matthew Whaley Elementary and the Palace. The family started down that path and the kids are yelling, "Princess Sotheby...Princess Sotheby...." When they got to the clearing in front of the Palace, a nice lady from Colonial Williamsburg came running down the Palace Green with ME. I was the princess!!

Thank you, AGA, for saving me! I am so happy to hear that all my puppy brothers and sisters have found amazing homes for the holidays too. What a wonderful world it is!

(Yosemite) Sam Sends His Hellos

Y'all! Look at my brother - he's huge!! I don't know what kind of dog he is, but he has some funny habits - like eating hay and letting my mom ride on his back! I tried the hay, but it wasn't that great.

I'm so happy here. Thank you for driving 7 hours to rescue me from that shelter in Alabama. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!
